In 1980, with husbands at work and children at the
hi/bye stage, two 35 year old women who were friends
asked themselves what was next on their life's agenda.
With neither wanting to venture too far from their
young families, they decided, against the odds, to
take their friendship to a higher level and become
business partners.
Carol Cohen's educational training and natural
affinity for decorating combined with Linda Kaplan's
creative and artistic talents led them to their first
store, 30 miles north of New York City, with 960
square feet of giftware, decorative accessories,
custom floral designs and jewelry. Their vision was
clear from the beginning: unique, quality merchandise
at the fairest prices, and above all, the best
personal customer service no matter what.
In 1987, with seven years of success (and friendship
still intact), they opened their second store in
Woodcliff Lake, NJ and a third store in 1992. THE
MANGO TREE and THE MANGO TREE INTERIORS now occupying
several thousand square feet all under one roof in
Rockland County, New York, have expanded to offer the
ultimate in giftware, full service decorating, the
finest in brand name and designer china, crystal and
flatware, and the most personalized state-of-the-art
bridal registry available.
Linda and Carol's combined number of five children,
all grown, frequently lend their services and new
technologies to keep the company streamlined, and one
third-generation granddaughter anxiously awaits her
turn to greet customers!
In all the years of successful business,
Linda Kaplan and Carol Cohen remain hands-on
employers, maintaining close relationships with
long-time customers, warmly welcoming new ones, and
never forgetting their original dedication to customer
service.
